Once AI shows up, users assume the product understands more than it used to. They assume it has context. They assume it can help them think, not just execute. And when those assumptions aren’t met, the disappointment feels personal.
From a UX designer’s perspective, generative AI design is less about novelty and more about expectation management. You’re not just designing an interface. You’re designing a relationship between the user and a system that now speaks back.

Good AI UX design starts with design thinking, not tooling. Specifically, understanding what users are already doing when no one is watching. The repetitive writing. The summarizing. The explaining. The constant translation between messy reality and presentable output.
